This new composition, entitled “Hieroglyphs,” was inspired by the old Boris Karloff movie “The Mummy.” In this composition, I attempt to create an Egyptian soundscape complete with the intrigue and fascination of entering an Egyptian pyramid as well as encountering the dangers that lie within. The mood of the piece ranges from mysterious and eerie to fast and all-out chaos. The length of the piece is approximately 7 minutes and uses a standard orchestration of winds, brass, strings and percussion. I have kept the difficulty of the piece to well within the ability of an average high school or youth orchestra.
